The shirt buttons of Men and women are on opposite sides and the reason behind that many historians said that men had a hidden gun and it was easier to reach a weapon inside their shirt. However, if the button are on the right side of a shirt, you can easily slip your right hand into your shirt more easily.

Whereas in women’s case, wealthy women didn’t dress themselves. However, buttons were placed on the left to make it more convenient for the right handed maids to fasten them as most of maids were right handed.

Saree is an integral part of every Indian women. It is a preferred attire for marriage as well as parties and ceremonies. Nowadays the sarees has evolved with many innovative ideas and style. Even the Indian women are trying new things with the changing of time and fashion trends. Here i’m giving you some tips regarding how you can care and wash your sarees.

1) Cotton Saree

Cotton Sarees are the most preferred sarees for Indian Women. Cotton Sarees are cheaper, more affordable and nominally priced in comparison to most other garments. These are famous in Hyderabad. Cotton sarees are perfect choice for summers as it is breathable, light weight and airy.

Washing instructions:           

1) Before washing a cotton saree for the first time, soak it for 10 to 25 minutes in a bucket of warm water mixed with rock salt. This will ensure that the color latches on the saree and will prevent the saree from “bleeding” color during subsequent washes.

2) Use only a mild detergent to wash a cotton saree. Do not wring it vigorously; instead, hang it over a water tap and allow the excess water to drain off.

3) Hang the saree to dry in a shaded area only as allowing the sun’s rays to directly hit the saree will cause the color to fade.

4) Store the saree in an airy cupboard that is devoid of humidity and direct sunlight.

2) Silk Saree

The Indian silk sarees are known for their lustrous beauty and incomparable variety of designs and colors. A silk sari is a piece of clothing that South Asian women often wear. If you go to a wedding in India, you’ll probably see the bride wearing a red silk sari.  No wedding is complete without the luxurious and expensive sarees made of pure silk. In India, different cities are involved in the production of silk sarees. For instance, there are six central states which are involved in silk production. These are Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Jammu, and Kashmir. These states produce raw mulberry silk of around 97%.

Washing instructions:

1) Never hand-wash Or machine -wash a silk saree.

2) In case the saree gets stained, immediately wipe the stain off with cold water.

3) It is advisable to only dry-clean silk saree.

4) Never hang a silk saree to dry in direct sunlight as doing so will cause the color to fade.

5) Store the saree in a light cotton musline cloth. This will give the saree breathing space and will prevent one saree from sticking to another when kept in a pile.

6) Don’t store the saree in a plastic cover as this will cause the gold embroidery to turn black.

3) Chiffon Saree

Chiffon sarees are great for women looking for a light-weight sarees. Chiffon sarees are semi-sheer and diaphanous which makes it drape well on the body. Chiffon is created by weaving yarns using an alternating method. High-twist yarns are used, which means the yarns are alternatively twisted, resulting in the gentle puckering of the fabric and creating a light crumpling effect in different directions. China is the biggest exporter of finished chiffon fabric. India too is responsible for producing chiffon fabric and exporting raw silk to China. Pakistan and Bangladesh export silk crops to China. France is the country of chiffon’s origin and still produces finest qualities of silk chiffon.

Washing instructions:

1) Silk chiffon needs to be dry cleaned.

2) Polyester chiffon and nylon chiffon can be hand washed or washed in the washing machine on gentle.

3) Use a mild, gentle detergent.

4) Wash with cold water and soak for 30 minutes. Do not leave in the water for any longer because the dye will start to fade.

5) Do not wring. Chiffon can easily lose shape.

6) Lay flat. Don’t use clips as they can create marks on the fabric on the line.

7) Don’t put in the sun. The fabric can fade so avoid direct sunlight.

There are some questions that have occured in our mind like how many clothes should we carry at the time of travelling. Let me tell you, don’t bring a bunch of clothes because believe me you are not gonna use all of them. Carry those outfits or clothes that will make you feel comfortable.

2) CAMERA – Good pictures play an important role in everyone’s life as they connect us to our past, they remind us of people, places, feelings, and stories. However, bring your camera with yourself while travelling, so that you can capture every memorable moment. You can aslo carry your mobile phone instead of camera, if your camera has good quality camera lens.

3) EXTRA BATTERIES AND POWER BANKS – Always carry extra batteries and power banks for your Gadgets as they are very essential whenever you need to charge your phones or as soon as the batteries run out. I always used to forget to bring them with me, but now i have one in my small bag Or pouch, that i carry everywhere.

4) TOILETRIES – It is very important to bring your own toiletries though most of the hotels provide it is still essential to bring. There is also travel containers are available on Amazon, from where, you can buy to repack your stuff like lotion, cream, shampoo or conditioner.

5) MEDICATIONS AND EXTRA MASKS – It is essential to carry your travel medical kit when you are travelling. Medications and first aid kit might not be readily available in all places. If you are going to a remote hill station and jungle, you won’t get medical help. You have to rely on the items in your travel medical kit to handle minor illnesses and wounds. However, It is also ideal to bring some creams and bandages for wounds with some essential tablets. Don’t forget to carry extra masks 😷 for your safety.

6) PASSPORT AND VISA – A passport is an identification document issued by a government that gives a citizen official permission to travel in and out of their home country. A visa is a document issued by a government to foreign visitors, providing them with legal entry into a foreign country. When traveling between different countries, a passport is required to gain access and cross the country’s borders If you are travelling abroad, don’t forget to bring your passport and visa with you.

7) DOCUMENTS AND CASH – In the new normal it is important to bring your vaccination card, medical clearance, and other documents that might be needed along the way. It is very important to bring cash with you so that you can buy anything which you like as an ATM or Bank might not be accessible all the time.

Types of Phulkari in India 🇮🇳

Phulkari 🌺
‘Phul’ means ‘flower’ and ‘kari’ means ‘work’🪡. Also known as ‘Gulkari’ a very inticrate needle work, along with bright colored threads mainly red, orange, blue, green, etc. The Phulkari embroidery first began in Punjab in the 15th century by the women of Punjab. It is the rural handmade embroidery tradition of Punjab and is also known as the folk embroidery of Punjab.

1) Thirma

Symbol of purity, worn by elder women and widows, but at times, the choice of white is made for esthetical reasons. Thirmas are a special group of Punjabi Phulkaris that have red/maroon/pink silk embroidery on an undyed white base. The entire category is rare and not easy to find. Some are so scarce that parallels are seen only in museums and never available for acquisition.

2) Darshan Dwar

Darshan Dwar Phulkari baghs are textiles offered to Gurudwaras Or temples by the Sikh community upon the fulfillment of wishes or at important life events. Compared to the other Phulkari baghs created as wedding textiles, the Darshan Dwar textiles are rarer in the world of textile collectibles.

3) Bawan Bagh

Another type of Bagh Phulkari, is the Darshan Dwar Bagh, meaning “The Gate from which one sees God. “ Made from a temple offering to thank God after a wish has been fulfilled. It has paneled architectural design. The pillars and the top of the gate were fulfilled with multi-colored triangles and diamonds.

4) Vari-da-bagh

When the bride enters the house of the bridegroom, the bridegroom’s father and mother gift a saree to her which is made by up of Vari-da-bagh. The base cloth will be khaddar and the color will be Orange-Red. The embroidery work will be done using either Gold or or Orange colored threads.

5) Sainchi

The usage of this one is limited to certain regions of Punjab, and usually the embroidery designs will be that of ‘Boxers’, ‘Agricultarists’, ‘Rural life’, ‘Animals’, etc. However, Sainchi phulkari is hardly seen these days.

6) Kaudi Bagh

Kaudi Phulkari was often worn by women wanting to increase their chance of pregnancy.

Among their patterns, this bagh includes chains of small white squares representing stylized cowries. From another point of view, the shape of these shells can remind of female genitals and make them become symbols of purity.

7) Meenakari

This Bagh, often made of Gold and White Pat, is decorated with small multicolored lozenges referring to Enamel work (Meenakari) or to “Diamond” Playing cards suit.

8) Panchranga Bagh

Panchranga means ‘Five colors’, this Bagh is decorated with chevrons of five different colors. The colors represent ‘Punjab – The land of rivers’.

9) Surajmukhi

Literally translated, it means ‘Sunflower’ 🌻 that refers to the main pattern of this Phulkari. Main colors used are yellow, reddish-orange, pink and gold.

10) Chope

Chope is another type of Phulkari, usually embroidered on the borders. It is gifted to the bride by her grandmother during some ceremony before wedding.
